41. Douglas Memorial Woods, Eliot (12/2001) Fee
A 24-acre forested parcel donated to the Trust by Susan Fleming of Needham Heights, Massachusetts in memory of her parents who owned and farmed this and adjacent parcels. The property is on State Road in Eliot, across from the Fogg Memorial Library, and abuts the Hilt Conservation Easement to the south. It includes a variety of forest types and habitats, including small seasonal streams, forested wetlands, upland hardwoods and a pine plantation. In 2006 a ¾-mile loop trail was constructed on the property, complete with bridges over the streams and boardwalks through the wetlands. Public access is through the trailhead on State Road and via a linking trail from the Grange parking lot.
