On December 11th, Great Works purchased two adjoining properties on Old County Road in South Berwick. The 37 acres of secluded, hilly woodlands are within the Mt. Agamenticus Focus area and the Ogunquit River watershed. Thank you, donors, for conserving these two parcels, GWRLT's 8th and 9th projects for the year 2014.
There is still the need and the opportunity to fund conservation/stewardship of the Grant parcels, and to replenish the Mt. A fund for the next priority project. Please send your donation to GWRLT, PO Box 151, S.Berwick, ME 03908 or contribute online and designate "Grant Project" or "Mt. A."
After learning of the owner's willingness to sell at a bargain price (provided it take place by year's end) Tin Smith, Great Works' Board President, received generous commitments from Bill and Connie Fortenbaugh of South Berwick; and Mary Breen/Bread & Roses Bakery in Ogunquit. They, in turn, inspired other Great Works' donors to give. We are grateful to the Fortenbaughs, Mary Breen, Steve and Leslie Bayse, and other donors. Their combined giving totals $72,000 towards the $97,000 total project. For the timely closing, Great Works tapped into a Mt. A fund used to bridge these types of transactions. Thanks also to the generous landowner and to Attorney Susan Thibeau of Berwick for the speedy closing.
